Christian emails Ana back almost immediately (I thought he had a meeting?).
Do you really feel like this or do you think you ought to feel like this? Two very different things. If that is how you feel, do you think you could just try and embrace these feelings, deal with them, for me?
NO NO NO.
THIS ISN’T ALL FOR YOU, CHRISTIAN. IF SHE’S NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT, THAT’S JUST HOW IT IS. SHE SHOULDN’T FEEL THE NEED TO “DEAL WITH IT” JUST FOR THE SAKE OF YOU AND YOUR BONER.
So they keep emailing each other (even though after that last email Ana should have broken up with him because he’s a self-centered piece of shit). We find out that Christian is emailing Ana in the middle of his meeting, which sounds really stupid, and I don’t know how he got to be such a successful businessman if that’s how he behaves in a meeting.
And then Christian says this in one of his emails:
For the record – you stood beside me knowing what I was going to do.
You didn’t at any time ask me to stop – you didn’t use either safeword.
EX CUSE ME.
WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY.
DID YOU JUST SAY “YOU DIDN’T TRY TO STOP ME SO THEREFORE YOU WANTED IT.”
DID THAT REALLY JUST HAPPEN.
This book is seriously one of the biggest examples of rape culture that I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing.
He just told Ana that she wanted it because she didn’t stop him.
MAYBE SHE DIDN’T STOP YOU BECAUSE SHE’S FUCKING TERRIFIED OF YOU, YOU MASSIVE DICK-CANYON? SHE’S INTIMIDATED BY YOU, FOR GOOD REASON, BECAUSE YOU THREATEN TO RAPE HER ALMOST EVERY DAY. AND YOU EVEN SAID THAT WHEN SHE SCREAMED, THERE WAS NO ONE TO HELP HER, ONLY YOU, AND THAT MAKES ME THINK THAT NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WOULD HAVE DONE WHAT YOU WANTED REGARDLESS OF HOW SHE FELT ABOUT IT.
PLEASE BREAK UP AND THEN YOU CAN GO DIE IN A FIRE BECAUSE YOU ARE A PIECE OF SHIT PERSON.
And then this happens:
[for reference, in her last email Ana made some joke about how if she listened to her body she’d be in Alaska by now, because it hurt so bad]
[this email is from Christian by the way]
Alaska is very cold and no place to run. I would find you.
I can track your cell phone – remember?
YOU ARE SUCH A CREEPY FUCK. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY ABOUT THIS.
Then they email back and forth a bunch more, and it’s all really stupid pointless shit that in no way acknowledges what a bowl of shit-stew Christian is. We find out he’s seeing a therapist, whoop-di-doo, I don’t care, I still want to murder him in the dick.
Ana then goes to work.
While there, she gets a package delivered from Christian. It’s a Blackberry cell phone, so Christian can be able to contact Ana at all times, and apparently just fucking calling her isn’t good enough.
Ana finishes her last day at work, goes home, finishes packing with Kate, then José comes over, and I guess things are back to normal between them, even though José tried to assault Ana and that shouldn’t be that easily forgiven, but whatever.
Then Elliot comes over and he and Kate start making out in front of Ana and José because they’re disgusting.
Ana and José decide to go out to the bar together, leaving Kate and Elliot behind.
I see no way for this to go wrong.
As we stroll down to the bar, I put my arm through José’s. God, he’s so uncomplicated – I hadn’t really appreciated that before.
HE ALSO TRIED TO KISS YOU AND REFUSED TO LET YOU GO EVEN AFTER YOU ASKED HIM TO AND THEN EVEN WHEN YOU WERE PUSHING ON HIM AND TRYING TO GET HIM OFF OF YOU HE WOULDN’T LET YOU GO AND THAT’S NOT OKAY.
WHY ARE YOU LINKING ARMS WITH HIM.
But apparently going out to the bar is fine, because all of a sudden it just cuts back to Ana being back at the apartment.
Ana finally checks her phone and WHAT A SURPRISE finds Christian being overbearing and all pissed off because she didn’t let him know when she was home from work. How dare she not tell him every detail of her life.
And then she calls him and surprisingly he doesn’t freak out at her, which is nice, but that still doesn’t excuse him.
They talk on the phone and then they do that whole stupid “you hang up” “no you hang up” bullshit. Finally they hang up and go to bed.
God I’m so angry with this chapter. I hate Christian Grey so much.
Suddenly the chapter cuts and Ana and Kate are just about moved into their new apartment.
The apartment is not large, but it’s big enough, three bedrooms and a large living space that looks out on to Pike PLace Market itself.
“It’s not large, but it’s FUCKING HUGE.”
Three bedrooms? And that living space sounds huge as well.
You have a very bad concept of what the word “large” means.
Also I hate that Ana doesn’t even have to pay rent on this place. Apparently she just lives in Magic Christmas Land where everything is handed to her and she doesn’t have to pay for a single thing.
Then a bunch of boring stuff happens that I don’t care to summarize because it’s all useless and dumb.
Suddenly it’s Sunday, and Ana goes to visit Christian for their date or whatever you want to call it. Except first Christian’s scheduled an OB/GYN appointment in his apartment for Ana, which is just weird. She could have just gone to see the doctor herself, but apparently Christian is a bigger control freak than I thought.
“Ready for some contraception?” he asks as he stands and holds out his hand to me.
“You’re not going to come as well, are you?” I gasp, shocked.
“I’d pay very good money to watch, believe me, Anastasia, but I don’t think the good doctor would approve.”
God you are creepy, Christian.
-End of Chapter Seventeen-
That was infuriating.
Everything Christian does makes me want to murder him. Ugh.
See you Wednesday!
